Tesla has begun work in its $2 billion plan at its Shanghai factory since a year now and the U.S. electric vehicle maker has already initiated delivering its Model 3 electric cars. The company has announced that it will begin deliveries from next month onwards.
The company initiated the launch on Monday with an event where 15 Tesla employees received the cars they had purchased. One of the employee even proposed his girlfriend for marriage after receiving his new set of wheels.
The Model 3 sedans made in China before subsidies are priced at 355,800 yuan (US$ 50,000), the price for longer range version of imported Model 3 vehicles starts at 439,000 yuan, and the standard range plus model in United States is priced at US$ 40,000.
Tesla plans to thrive as the world’s biggest car maker and the Shanghai plant that has been running since past 367 days is a part of this plan. This plan will also help lessen the U.S. - China trade war impact. The automaker previously imported the cars that were sold in China but before the Lunar New Year, the automaker desires to initiate its deliveries from the Shanghai plant itself.
Tao Lin, vice president of Tesla said during the delivery ceremony that was attended by Shanghai government officials and employees that finally Model 3 vehicles will start running on the large streets and small lanes of China.
Wang Hao, Silicon Valley carmaker’s China General Manager said that tesla has plans of boosting its Model 3 deliveries by January.
Chinese government’s support for the factory, the first wholly foreign owned car plant is a reflection of the nation’s broader perspective towards global auto market.
