The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to Step back from Roles as Senior Members of Royal Family

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, have made a shocking announcement on social media. An Instagram post revealed that they want to step back as senior members of the British Royal Family. The royal couple also intends to work to become financially independent. Having said that, they will continue to give their full support to and collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen. Furthermore, they will continue to collaborate with all relevant parties, besides The Prince of Wales and The Duke of Cambridge. They will also continue to honor their duty to their patronages, apart from The Queen and the Commonwealth.

An unsigned Royal Communications statement said the situation was complicated and it would take time to resolve the issue. It also mentions that discussions with Prince Harry and his wife Meghan are at an early stage.

No other Royal Family members were consulted about the decision

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their plan to balance their time between the UK and North America. “This geographic balance will be enabling us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space for focusing on the next chapter, which includes the launch of our charitable entity,” Prince Harry and his wife Meghan wrote in an Instagram post.

According to sources, other senior members of the Royal Family were deeply hurt after they came to know about the decision of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Sources also say that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan did not consult any other Royal Family members before issuing their statement. The decision may give an impression that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will now be able to live the private life that they have always argued for. It comes immediately after the royal couple paid a visit to Canada’s High Commission in London to extend their gratitude for the hospitality they received when spending their holidays in Canada.
